What,s new this year? Our scarecrow competition!
Open to all and a project for the whole family – full details in the schedule (download a copy of this years schedule). This should be a great event, lots of fun for participants and spectators alike. Visitors to the show will be able to vote for the winner.
Gardeners and cooks, photographers and artists – you will still find all your favourite classes, and some new ones. Do try to enter as many as you can (once you have entered ten classes there is no extra entry fee involved).
A couple of small changes this year: we have decided not to give prize money for the adult classes, although the children will still be awarded prizes. We feel sure that you are entering for the fun of it (and the glory – there are a number of cups and trophies to be won!) and the money saved will boost the total given to our nominated charities. We have also decided that Flower Arranging is a less daunting proposition than Floral Art – please prove us right by entering in 2010.
This year is the 60th anniversary of the first recorded schedule of the Show. For a copy of the 1950 schedule (click here) together with a brief history (click here) of the Show, written by Margaret Heilbuth for the 1995 Show. Do take a look – it makes interesting reading.
On the day (do put Saturday 18th September in your diary now)
there will of course be an amazing Raffle and our unique
Tombola (all tickets win – Simon is already busy collecting
prizes) and for the energetic there is our very entertaining Tug-of-
War. After all the excitement you are sure to need a cup of tea
with some delicious homemade cake. This year we will also
have a stand manned by horticultural experts from Van Hage
who will be able to advise on your planting, help you with your
problems and generally make sure that you do even better next
year.
Contributions and offers of help are always very much appreciated – just contact any Committee member (details inside front cover). A reminder of the class listings and the entry form will be delivered to you in early September.
I would like to thank the judges, committee, their families and other helpers, Van Hage, the advertisers, and all those who so generously donate to the raffle, tombola and stalls. However, we can’t do it without your support – keep the entries coming!
