Best Kept Village Competition 2009
The Village Society organised two clean-up days for 2009 : Saturday 30th. May & Sunday 14th. June. Volunteers helped in litter collecting, cleaning signs, weeding and general 'tidying up'.
A big thank you to Peter Lorring for painting the sign post - it looks great!
Best Kept Village Competition - In 2007 we won the Gurney Cup – the prize for the best kept village with a population of less than 500 residents in Buckinghamshire. The sun shone on us for the presentation by the Vice Lord Lieutenant & Mrs. Jenny Hopkirk (wife of Paddy), which was held during the produce show. We were two points ahead of our rivals and the judges commented favourably on the lack of litter in the village and that the river was an asset to the village – unlike the year before when they commented that the river did not have much water in it! We have won a best kept village category seven times since 1966.
